A Special Thanksgiving Service was organised at St. Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 by The Rt. Revd. P.S.P. Raju, Bishop of Calcutta, the Diocese of Calcutta and St. John's Diocesan School, as a mark of honour to Mrs. Rosita Chrestien, Principal, St. John's Diocesan School and Hony. Secretary, Diocese of Calcutta, on the conferment of the National Award on her for her outstanding contribution in the field of education.
The Service began with an opening prayer followed by the procession. Among the many songs and hymns sung to praise the Lord, "Amazing Grace" by Shane Hyrapiet and "In His Time" by Derek Fernandez stood out.
There were a series of encomia. The Rt. Revd. Dr. D.C. Gorai spoke about how Mrs. Chrestien raised the school from the status of a liability to one of the premier institutions of the city.Mrs. Chitra Ghosh, President, DIO Alumini Association, talked about the leadership and dynamism of Mrs. Chrestien. Mr. Barry O'Brien, noted columnist was eloquent about the loving and compassionate human being within the leader, who is also a visionary. Mr. J.T. Amirthasingh, Hony. Secretary, School Managing Committee, in very precise terms, summed up the immense contribution of Mrs. Chrestien in transforming Diocesan into an academic institution that really mattered. Dr. Maya Ghosh, Guardians' Representative, School Managing Committee was very spontaneous in her assessment of Mrs. Chrestien as a torch bearer to progress, with deep psychological insight into the needs of the students. Mrs. Sunipa Sen, Teachers' Representative, School Managing Committee, stressed on the respect that the Teachers of St. John's Diocesan School are treated with by their Principal. She also spoke about the phenomenal changes brought about in the general ambience of the school within a short period of 14 years by Mrs. Chrestien.
The Rt. Revd. P.S.P. Raju, Bishop of Calcutta, in his address spoke about the leadership and dynamism of Mrs. Chrestien. He further talked about what a great servant of God Mrs. Chrestien is.
Mrs. Chrestien in her vote of thanks left out no one. It was a profoundly warm account where other than her immediate family. Bishop of Calcutta and Bishop Gorai, her teachers, students, parents and guardians, members of the managing committee, speakers and all Principals, Teachers and students from different schools found mention. |
